Westport, CT Stump Grinding, Tree Care and Removal Services

Delivering professional stump grinding, tree care and removal services across the county, Rosie the Stump Boss has been crushing it (literally) since 2020. Our cutting-edge stump cutter is capable of pulverizing a small stump in seconds, or a massive one in just a few hours.

We can go where most trucks can’t. With our remote operated, self-propelled stump grinding machine, we can access some of the most difficult spots, grinding to a depth deep below ground and leaving a pile of finely shredded grindings.

If you need help diagnosing a problem tree or removing multiple trees from your property, we offer climbing and aerial lift services to safely remove some of the most hard-to-reach trees from your property.

Some of the services we provide include tree care, tree removal and recycling chip grindings, root grinding, regrading, layering topsoil and lawn seeding.

Is it necessary to grind a stump?

Decaying and decomposing stumps attract a variety of unwelcome visitors such as beetles, termites, carpenter ants, mice, organisms, fungi and diseases. These destructive pests can become an issue to nearby healthy trees, shrubs, plants and your home. They can also become a safety hazard, particularly when there is significant ground coverage from grass or leaves, creating a potentially dangerous trip hazard.

Is it better to remove or grind a tree stump?

Stump removal is difficult and could be very labor intensive. It requires heavy machinery and occasionally a crane to dig or pull out the stump and tree roots, and sometimes with no success. Some roots can extend well past the drip line, and over 100 feet beyond the stump, potentially destroying a lawn along with underground pipes and wiring.

Stump grinding, on the other hand, is considered safer, quicker and more economical. It leaves minimal lawn damage, if any, and the decomposing chips left behind make a good organic amendment to the soil. The area, in most cases, becomes ideal for replanting grass or various types of shrubs and plants.

Will stumps eventually grow again?

Occasionally, yes, stumps can grow back into full-grown trees. Depending on how healthy the roots are, when some species of trees are cut down they can regenerate new sprouts (or suckers). Eventually, these shoots grow back assuming a dominant trunk(s) and become a tree again. Grinding, removal and chemical control are the most effective methods for preventing regrowth.

Conversely, some stumps and their roots can take decades to decompose, particularly if the tree and roots were previously in good health and a lack of organisms are present to aid in accelerating decomposition.
